Do you have a travel specialty?
While I am able to book any type of travel, I do specialize in luxury properties and experiences in Costa Rica, Thailand, Alaska, some European countries, Mexico, and many other Caribbean destinations. I also specialize in small group trips, corporate incentive trips, romantic travel, and adult-only vacations.
I haven't personally traveled to all of my specialties just yet — but most of them, yes! We are able to provide expertise even in places we haven’t yet visited because of our deep relationships with exceptional in-destination partners. In addition, we travel to new destinations each year (our favorite form of R&D!) to enhance our recommendations, insider tips, and first-hand knowledge to further personalize your travel experience.
What is the payment process?
Travel Research & Design Fee
Paid via Stripe by you prior to any research being done
Due in full and is non-refundable
This payment is made to One Day Closer Travel directly as a payment for our services
Initial Deposit
Authorized by you through our secure invoicing system, and processed by us on your behalf
Confirms your itinerary and trip without having to pay in full
Deposit amount and due date are based on total trip cost and departure date and are determined by each supplier
This payment is NOT made to One Day Closer Travel, but paid directly to the supplier(s) for your trip
Final Payment
Authorized by you through our secure invoicing system, and processed by us on your behalf
The payment due date is set by the travel supplier(s) and is usually due 30-90 days prior to departure
This payment is NOT made to One Day Closer Travel, but paid directly to the supplier(s) for your trip
Payments can usually be made in whatever amount and schedule you prefer. We are happy to set up a payment schedule based on your preferences leading up to final payment.
Why do you charge planning fees and how are they calculated?
Our goal is to save you time, provide you with peace of mind, and ensure a seamless trip from start to finish. By charging a planning fee, we can dedicate the necessary time and attention to detail to curate a personalized itinerary tailored to your preferences.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room — there are many Travel Advisors in the industry who “do not charge fees.” Did you know that Travel Advisors can markup your overall trip cost, essentially charging you a fee without you ever knowing? Integrity is a core value I have built my business upon and therefore transparency in pricing is paramount in my client’s experience. By paying for trip planning services at the onset, you gain clearly defined expectations of the research, deliverables and service you will receive in return for your investment.
Our planning fees are calculated based on your service level preference and the complexity of the trip. This can include but is not limited to the number of legs, number of travelers, number of nights, and time until departure.
Do you get better rates than if I book myself?
I aim to ensure you have the best experience possible that perfectly matches your vision and interests. I often have access to negotiated rates, but the real value is in how I can save you time, stress, and frustration before traveling and at your destination. Can you price-match Costco?
Price-matching and competing with online booking engines is not part of our business model and we’re confident that by working with One Day Closer Travel, you’ll soon see why! Our value lies in the genuine care we have for your trip as if it were our own. This care is exemplified through personalized service supporting your entire travel experience, from start to finish… a far cry from what you’ll receive from a 1-800 call center should things go awry.
Why do you use bundled package rates? Can I receive a breakdown?
We take a holistic approach to trip planning, considering factors such as accommodations, transportation, activities and additional services to create a seamless itinerary tailored to your preferences. By bundling these components, we can leverage industry relationships and negotiated pricing to secure the best overall value for your trip.
Do you work with Airbnb and VRBO?
We are able to book rental properties through management companies, but we do not work with properties that are individually managed as we are unable to stand behind the quality and service of individually owned properties. If you are looking for options with shared space (like a living room), we will work with our partners to find vetted rental properties, suites, villas, apartments, or hotels that meet your needs, with a service level we can stand behind. Need a chef, housekeeping staff, driver and/or butler for your stay? Not a problem, just let us know!
